Come and Sing with the Choir
One Man’s Dream
The “man” is Peter Kelly, who sang with the choir for over 20 years before his death, from cancer, in 2006. The “dream” was to perform at one of the country’s most prestigious concert venues, the Bridgewater Hall, in Manchester, to raise money for the Christie. To perform with the band that he’d often heard in concert and on record, was another part of the dream. The world famous Black Dyke was that band and they will be joining us, the Rossendale Male Voice Choir, to make the dream a reality on 18th June 2010 at the Bridgewater Hall.
The concert is an opportunity to involve the community of Rossendale and the surrounding area in a memorable event. We would like to invite men of all ages to join us to prepare for, and sing at this concert. In the months leading up to the performance we will meet and rehearse the chosen pieces, about twelve in all.
The choir is led by conductor, Kate Shipway and accompanist, Michael Farnworth and consists of 40 singing members, divided into four sections; Tenors 1 & 2 and Basses 1 & 2. New members need not feel overwhelmed at the task of learning new pieces, as existing members will need time to learn them too.
Rehearsals are weekly on a Friday evening at the Unitarian Church; details, a map and a contact telephone number can be found below. We are even holding a “New Members Night” on 12th February to welcome prospective new members. This will be at Rawtenstall Cricket Club, Bacup Rd, Rawtenstall, starting at 7.30pm.
We hope you feel bold enough to come along and join us, to sing or just to listen. You will be made to feel very welcome and maybe you would like to join us for a beer afterwards.
