“It‘s not every day that someone reaches 60 year’s dedicated service to an organisation, but Eric Royle (left) is shown receiving his well-earned trophy from the Chairman of the Rossendale Male Voice Choir, Ernest Schofield.

Eric joined the choir, as “ a slip of a lad” in 1952, and has sung as a top tenor ever since. He has enjoyed many successes with the choir during the intervening years, most notably winning twice at the Llangollen Eisteddford, under the founding musical director, Fred Tomlinson.

We rarely see such dedication today, but Eric is the exception to prove the rule, and his unswerving loyalty to the choir is a lesson for any younger members. When he’s not singing, Eric spends much of his time helping many of his wide family circle, and can still be found painting or wallpapering for assorted grandchildren.

Whilst the choir has seen many changes over the last 60 years, the warm fellowship between the members is a constant, and continues to the present day.

Our warmest congratulations, and heartfelt thanks, go to Eric, for all his many years of devoted service to the choir.

While the rest of the world was sitting on their sofas, letting the turkey settle, Kate and John were being serenaded by both of these fine choirs, during a fabulous service in one of the most beautiful churches in the North West. The bride wore a beautiful ivory dress and veil with a purple and white bouquet. The bridesmaids wore deep turquoise dresses in different designs , with contrasting purple shawls.

The afternoon involved singers from a total of 5 choirs, with contributions such as “Get Me to the Church on Time”, We’ve Only Just Begun”, and My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose” to add to the occasion. The fabulous day was capped with a reception and dancing to a lively ceilidh band.

Kate commented “ We had a wonderful day, made even more perfect by the singing of the ladies’ and men’s choirs. The church is vast, but the sound was incredible, and I can’t thank everybody enough for helping to make our day so memorable.

Both Kate and John are teachers, so the honeymoon will have to wait until August, and as the choirs are heading off to Bocholt in May, Kate will be back at the music stand straight away, to prepare everybody for this exciting visit.
