One Man’s Dream
Bridgewater Concert a Brilliant Success
18th June was a night to remember for Rossendale Male Voice Choir. Sharing the stage with Black Dyke Band and Rossendale Ladies Choir and with Darius Battiwalla on organ this was indeed a dream come true. Singing in front of an audience of 1500 people and on the stage at the Bridgewater: pinch me I must be dreaming!
As a concert this was a huge success. The contributions of each individual group were flawless. The choirs combined to sing Psalm 100 to “Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord” and in a very poignant and moving rendition of “The Prayer of the Children”. Particular effective was the use of the organ in the final chorus of “An American Trilogy” sung by the Male Voice Choir and with the band in Saints Saens “Organ Symphony”. The finale of “Speed your Journey” and “The Hallelujah Chorus” with all three groups combined was stunning.
The raison d’etre of the concert was to raise money for the Christie and this too was hugely successful. Programme sponsors contributed magnificently, ticket sales were beyond expectation and altogether the evening raised getting on for £30,000.
A concert of this size and nature requires a great deal of organisation and co-ordination between the parties concerned. Top marks to Peter Beetham who took on the role of co-ordinator to ensure the success of the whole venture.
